  • Apollo's Fire

    Cantaqua

Performed at Burning Man 2011, Boulder Fringe Festival 2012 and South by Southwest 2012 in Austin, TX. Cantaqua is an ongoing collaboration involving live theatrical performance, digitally-enhanced visual media and strikingly original music. The production is currently being transformed into a full dome digital projection.

Cultivating live theatrical performance, digitally-enhanced visual media and strikingly original music, the production excavates the mytho-historical record of the Apollo figure so central to the worldview of Western Civilization. This music-based film is comprised of inter-weaving stories thread together into a 45-minute journey of death and resurrection. Presented in the tradition of ancient Greek theater, the storyteller, Apollo R.E.D., V, is an exaggerated expression of the wounded male archetype - Hero to some, and Villain to others. Lamenting the demise of one story, while heralding the emergence of a new one, he is sacrificed to the will of Ollopa Blue the Water Spirit, evolution herself. He journeys through the Bardo and descends into Abyssus - where he is dissolved into nothing, returning to source - where imaginal cells are birthed, and the waves of evolution bring forth the new egg - and the cycle is born again - at a higher octave.
